Six amino acids from yeast. Interesting cell biology; the human trials are not written yet.
A peptide is a short chain of amino acids — the building blocks of proteins — and a signal peptide is one whose shape happens to tell skin cells to do something. Hexapeptide-11 is six amino acids long and was first isolated from yeast.
In the laboratory it does something genuinely interesting: it switches on the cell's own housekeeping systems, the ones that clear damaged proteins and protect against oxidative stress, and in doing so it kept skin cells from ageing early under stress. That is the mechanism behind every peptide cream that mentions elasticity.
What does not exist yet is a controlled trial of the peptide on people. We use it in Double Take for what the cell biology supports — skin that looks smoother and better rested — and we describe it that way.
